PATTERNS OF THE FUTURE

Hansje van Halem (Enschede, 1978) studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where she established her own studio in 2003. Her designs are used in her own book designs, posters and illustrations, but also in public spaces in the form of a facade, fence or floor.

Her signature typography and geometric, almost psychedelic illustrations are layered graphic landscapes in which the eye can wander. Amorphous fuzzy letterforms, a sloshing ocean of lines.

Hallucinatory colors, surfaces, complexity. Hansje’s work is in the collection of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Museum für Gestaltung Zürich (CH), among others. Since 2017, Hansje has been the chief designer of music festival Lowlands.
